Digital vs. physical: why illuminated signage doesn't die in the screen era
Screens attract eyes, but the letter on the facade says 'we're here, permanently'. The two don't exclude each other, they complement.

There's a theory repeated at every conference: digital screens will swallow everything, and physical advertising will disappear. The data says otherwise, and the nuance matters for any workshop wondering where to invest.
What the numbers show
It's true that digital signage attracts attention: a screen can generate up to 400% more viewers than a static sign. But in the same interval, demand for static signage (channel letters, monument signs, pylons) remains solid. The two types aren't in a zero-sum competition. They grow in parallel, because they do different things.
The screen communicates, the letter affirms
A screen says messages that change: promotions, programs, content. A channel letter on the facade says one thing, but says it permanently: "we're here, this is our identity". It's a landmark, it's trust, it's 24-hour presence, even when no screen is running. Think of a store chain: the illuminated sign above the entrance never changes, but the screen in the window runs the week's promotion. Both work for the same brand, in different roles. Serious brands don't choose between them, they use both (the letter for identity and the screen for dynamism).
What actually changes
Not the disappearance of the physical sign, but raising the bar. Clients today demand better-finished letters, uniformly illuminated, without shadows and without hotspots. A poor-quality sign gets lost in the street's visual noise; one properly executed passes the "sidewalk test" and catches light at every hour of the day.
The practical conclusion for a workshop: the physical part not only survives, but becomes more demanding (thus more valuable). A producer who masters quality illuminated letters and can also deliver mounts for digital displays becomes the complete partner the client needs who wants both permanent presence and dynamic content. Instead of fearing the screen, you integrate it into the offer.
